The location is perfect for exploring the Kyle of Sutherland area, and futher afield. The accessibility of the cottage via nearby Ardgay station meant we easily travelled by train with our bikes & enjoyed rides to the Falls of Shin, Rosehall waterfalls & Strath Carron direct from the door! The cottage was just right & the owners & locals extremely welcoming. Views from the cottage over the Dornoch Firth are superb. We were also impressed by the garden, perfect for outdoor eating & bbq's.

The long journey (300 miles) proved to be well worth it! This cottage was spotlessly clean, very well-equipped and, overall, extremely comfortable and cosy - the owners have thought of everything to ensure that guests enjoy their stay here. With a super view to the Kyle of Sutherland and within easy walking distance of Bonar Bridge, this cottage is well-placed to visit nearby Tain, Dornoch and Lairg, and driving across to Ullapool through spectacular mountain scenery is a bonus. Excellent!

"Fantastic cottage in beautiful and tranquil setting”

The cottage is lovely, and in a fantastic rural location with amazing views. On arrival we found a tasty and welcoming homemade cake and the owners had made sure everything was ready for us, including popping the heating on before we got there. The cottage was extremely warm and cosy despite the cold weather, and although we used the lovely wood burning fire for ambience, we didn't really need it for the heat. The cottage was spotless and very homely, with everything you could need. The beds were amazingly comfy - better than my bed at home! We had some amazing trips out, the local scenery is breath taking and there are so many places to walk nearby, within a short drive also taking in waterfalls and deserted beaches. The owners are very helpful.

Perfect for a hassle-free holiday.

A beautifully presented cottage with great attention to detail, comfortable and roomy with everything to hand, even down to a towel for the dogs! Lovely private garden with fabulous views and even a garage for trailers and bicycles. Idaelly situated to explore the whole Highland region with lovely sites to visit on the doorstep. Very friendly but unobtrusive owners. Definitely a place we would go to again.

what it says on the tin

Shine taken off holiday by local eejit threatening to shoot our dog tho no sheep in field. [or adjacent fields ]. Boundary wall of cottage would be no barrier to Springer or bigger . Otherwise fine .

Owner Response

We are very unhappy with this review as it is not about the cottage. It is a personal issue regarding lack of control of a dog on a farmers land. The farmer in question has had sheep attacked in the past by holidaymakers dogs. We do ask that dogs be kept under close control and this is made clear on the website. The area mentioned does sometimes have sheep straying from the adjacent woods. The boundary wall/fence of the cottage varies from 3-4ft high as clearly shown on the website photographs.

The best holiday let we have ever stayed in

The owners greeted us on arrival and ensured that we had everything we needed for a truly restful holiday. The location was close to the main routes and yet peaceful enough to allow us to sleep with no disturbance. The cottage was furnished and equipped to a good standard and spotlessly clean . Two parking spaces and an enclosed garden with secure gates. Steep stairs might be a problem for small children. We would recommend Ploughman's cottage as a well located and comfortable holiday home.

Amazing location, Excellent Property which made our vacation

Although it has to be said we were incredibly lucky with the weather (even shorts in Scotland in April !) we cannot recommend this property enough, it has stunning views, great location for exploring all of the East Coast of Scotland, just a short drive from Castles, Breweries,Inverness and easy route up to John o Groats, Some amazing walks and scenery on country roads too. Excellent hosts as well. Thanks, we would recommend this property to anyone

Gorgeous location, private, peaceful, spotless, very cosy and warm

I think the above said it all. Friendly welcolme and a lovely memory of our stay. The wider area is also fabulous. We wanted to move in and stay for ever!We had a springer spaniel and being well behaved owners and dog, have only good things to say about the local folk we met :)

A fantastic place to be

A really comfortable "home-from-home" place to be; we wanted for nothing, either in the cottage (warm and cosy with everything we needed) or in the area as a whole - even the weather was kind. Our 2 border collies settled immediately and loved the open space to play ball! The owners and locals were so friendly. We can wholeheartedly recommend this property - thank you for a super week.

Tranquil retreat from the rat race !!!

lovely welcoming cottage (inside and out) with owners who went the extra mile to ensure we had a great holiday. Clean and inviting, the cottage had all the mod cons required and a lovely hillside view from the cottage of dornoch firth. We Visited castles, lochs, breweries within an hours drive and got up close to seals and even a deer (behind the cottage!)..Fantastic scenery and great holiday memories to keep. Recommended, to get away from it all !
